The Beaver At The Server Farm
“British Columbia Internet outage caused by beaver”–DataCenterDynamics.com
I
The Beaver surveys
The server farm
Tail to the ground
With thinking eye
Wetlands were
Left off the map
To get around Federal
Protection Acts
But the Beaver knows
Where waterways
Run, rusty culverts
That see no sun
Like his comrades
Co-workers friends
He finds where
Water wends
The Beaver has
A building brain
An ear for water
And a crafty paw
II
Inside the server
Data in rows
Machines murmur
Ones and zeros
To our offices
The data flows
Finds and delights
Leads and follows
The slap of his tail
Should be a warning
To those who are
Data farming
Know the Beaver
Will delete, destroy
With his canals
Built from joy
Files and furies
Felled in a dream
Washing the data
Down the stream
III
Will urban expats
In the far future
Buy up server farms
And make them cuter
Live like beavers
With their cozy lodges
Patching leaks
Restoring rivers
Beavers like to
Cuddle and kiss
At dusk they
Lounge, reminisce
Know by nibbling
What is right
Eat apples, Lily tubers
Mate by moonlight
Proud of his pelt
And of his plan
The Beaver unworks
The works of man
