The Gray Rock Method

For resisting manipulative people

Here is how it works
Imagine you are a rock
Words ripple over you
In a deep stream bed
Where you sleep to all
Insults, meanness, needling

What kind of rock is it
You want to ask
Godly granite for a monument
To your right resolve or
Shale shattering into
Layers like pages of a book

Instead of a gray rock
Could you be an iceberg
A dagger to the depths
Reaching into a sunless sea
Ready to take the Titanic
With a mighty crack

Where are you cut from
A quarry, a cavern, a cairn
In your inert heart where you
Become stone to stone
What you pretend to be
While the water talks

NOTE

Gray Rock is a technique for dealing with psychopathic, narcissistic or manipulative people who like to draw you into arguments and drama. The goal is to become as detached and non-reactive as possible by keeping conversations brief and superficial. Although very popular, the method has not been scientifically tested.
