Teachers at a Public School Zero meeting were annoyed yesterday when their new Professional Development Liaison greeted them dressed in a glittery Disney princess costume and said she wanted to be the “fairy godmother” for PSZ.
Ms. Ramsy shouted from the back row, “You are not a fairy godmother, you are an employee of the school district, paid with our tax dollars, whose job it is to assist us.”
The Fairy Godmother replied in a trembling voice that, “Teachers are magic, that’s what I’m trying to say.”
“Teachers are not magic, teachers work hard at what they do,” Ms. Ramsey objected again.
After a moment of discord, Mr. Curt stood up and pleaded with his colleagues not to create an argument that would make the meeting run long.
The Fairy Godmother beamed at Mr. Curt and told the group that she was appreciative of the teachers for being generous with their love and care and that she was happy to end the meeting early to give teachers free time to work on class prep.
“Teachers should not be romanticized for their generosity, teachers should be fairly compensated for their work!” Ms. Ramsey yelled from the back. “Teachers should not be grateful for prep time, prep time should be included in paid hours.”
Mr. Curt turned to Ms. Ramsey and pleaded, “I have to get to a dentist appointment to be fitted for a new night guard for my teeth grinding.”
Throughout the meeting, Ms. Ashley Shirley Moss-Ross used her time to create a new ASMR video for her Nature Therapy Youtube account. Selecting from some of the hundreds of hours of footage she has of her beloved Shih Tzu, Ms. Ashley Shirley Moss-Ross assembled one of her signature soothing, spine-tingling videos and posted it during the interminable Group Work assignment.
The meeting did run overtime and only ended when the Professional Development Liaison reached into her voluminous bag and removed a sparkly stick which she waved over the audience to declare the meeting over “by the power of her fairy wand.”
Opening her phone after putting away her Disney attire, the PD Liaison was surprised to see the new video. “How did you manage to post this during the meeting?” she asked.
“Magic,” replied Ms. Ashley Shirley Moss-Ross, tucking her notes into a folder to save for Mr. Curt who had slipped out at the start of the meeting.
