Florida Schools History Ban: Friday School Poem

I

Some things I’m not
Supposed to mention
One night you can wake
Up and your neighbors
Come and kill you

And slaughter your
Children and rape you
And your mother and
Then throw you in a pit
Which is hard to dig

Not buried really but
Planted in the dirt
Sometimes a backhoe
Brutalizes the earth
Instead of a shovel

It is possible that some
Of the people who do
These things will feel pretty
Bad about it later
If they don’t blot it out

We are supposed to tell you
Though that a single shooter
May come and take your
Lives and your teachers
And how to hide

Are you missing a history lesson
Or primate biology
I’m not making this beautiful
It just happens
And then you die
