This month’s Parent Association Lecture will be given by Richard Rich Academy school psychologist, Dr. Albert Dolittle. He will be reading from his new book, How To Control Your Children.

Dr. Albert reviews the current prevailing parenting advice, which focuses on creating a loving bond with your children, providing a consistent, structured environment, and being authoritative instead of authoritarian.

Although these practices can be healthy, Dr. Albert suggests that the evidence of history suggests that three age-old methods are in fact more effective. Instead of a woo-woo focus on connectedness, Dr. Albert advocates for controlling your children through guilt, criticism, and money. He calls these three methods the “Iron Anklet of Parenting,” and demonstrates how each technique can be used to gain maximum leverage over your offspring.
