My Students’ Apathy

Apathy is
Not nothing
It is a coat
You carry
Into class

Heft down the
Hallway of near
Death TV
Tunneling to
The next episode

You can be
So close to
Death you
Smell his
Lunch taco

There are no
Coathooks here
I am the nail
Where you will
Hang your heart
