In cooperation with the PTA, third-grade homeroom teacher Mrs.Kindly has launched the first annual Parent Diorama Contest. Mrs.Kindly explained that studies show 73% of parents help their children do their homework, with some doing all the work. Based on the work she has seen parents do on their children’s shoe box dioramas, she realized many parents are skilled crafters and might enjoy an outlet for their talents. The rules specify that no child is allowed to help their parent, no professional model builders can be hired, and all material for the diorama must come in under the strict budget of $2,000. Mrs. Kindly will be checking materials receipts at the door, so don’t try to get around this important rule.
There are three categories parents may submit under: Scene from A Novel, Scene from History, or Upsetting Scene From Childhood As Long as It is Rated G. Early entrants for the History category include a model of the siege of Stalingrad and a diorama of the Capitol Riot with real feces used in the parts of the building where the rioters left their mark.
Since no parents read novels, no submissions have been made in this category yet, but Mrs. Kindly hopes parents may submit models they made for their children’s homework based on literary scenes they studied with SparkNotes. George’s dad is working on a diorama of his own third-grade classroom, where he was beaten by a nun. Although in the actual event George’s dad had to pull down his pants, in the model he is clothed in accordance with the contest rules.
