After Princeton students demanded the renaming of the Woodrow Wilson Foundation to Citizens and Scholars, Fred’s University is removing the name of our racist founder from our foundation as well. We are excited to announce the new name of our foundation, Live and Learn!, which reflects the mission of our organization going forward.
The white supremacist who used his slavery-based inheritance to fund our foundation did not want any of his stolen fortune going to black people. Our fellowship helped continue recirculating our country’s wealth among a small privileged white group for a generation. Our fellowship was also part of a gatekeeper structure that kept academia white by fetishizing a closed racist credentialing system. Notice the pictures we have included in our newsletter of lots of people of color smiling. No, we did not get photo permission from these people of color to be in this particular newsletter, but way back they did have to check a teeny tiny box saying they would be a media token in order to get their huge fellowship.
In order to go forward, we have to admit the wrongs that were done, and share documentation of them. In order to go forward, we have hired an internet search company to help promote our new brand and to wipe the web of as much negative information about our founder as possible. As part of our campaign to Virtue Signal, we have printed this newsletter which highlights the few projects related to black history we have funded over the last ten years.
In order to atone for our past crimes, we have pledged to give all of our grant money to historically black colleges and universities for the next ten years. We are delighted to continue to reap the benefits of a violent and segregated world without ever really coming to terms with what happened or having to give up anything we stole from black people.
