Dear Butterscotch,

My close friend Amy hosted an exclusive sleepover for her son and did not include my son. Our sons have been close friends since kindergarten and do something together every weekend. The boys invited to the exclusive slumber party are very cool, but not close friends of either boy. My son is devastated. What should I do?

Dear Agony Mama,

You may have heard the good advice that you should let your kids solve their own problems, and the truism that kids gain resilience through adversity. Amy is a Queen Bee and Social-Climber-By-Proxy. If her son turns out anything like her, your son is better off finding a truer friend.
If that doesn’t satisfy you, why don’t you host an exclusive dinner party on a night when her son is over at your house. Don’t invite Amy and wait for her to hear about the party from her son.
Meow!
Butterscotch
